In a hundred ages of the gods I could not tell thee the glories of [the Himalaya]….there is no mountain like [the Himalaya] for in it are Kailash and Manasarovar.

- From the Hindu epic Ramayana

Few mountains in the world rival the grandeur of Mount Kailash (6,717m/22,028ft), the famed holy peak in Western Tibet. Situated to the north of the Himalayan barrier, this legendary 'crystal mountain' is revered by four different religions as one of the most sacred pilgrimage destination in Asia. The sources for four of  South Asia's greatest rivers are nearby, and at the base of the mountain are two vast lakes, Manasarovar (Tib., Mapham Yumtsho, the Unconquerable Turquoise Lake) and Rakshas Tal (Tib., La-ngak or Langka Tsho).

Our Kailash journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal. From there we drive across the Friendship Highway to Tibet, arriving on the shores of Lake Manasarovar, the holiest lake in Asia. After completing the pilgrimage kora around Mount Kailash itself, we’ll attend the annual festival of Saga Dawa, held at the foot of the mountain. Finally we continue our Kailash trek with an impressive drive across the Tibetan plateau to Zhangmu and then back to Kathmandu.
