Experience a day of hiking in the pristine forests of Shivapuri National Park in Nepal!
On this day hike from Kathmandu, you will walk through the pristine forests of Shivapuri National Park and visit the famous Nagi Gompa Nunnnery where you will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the nuns while admiring fantastic views of the Kathmandu valley.
Your day begins with a ride on a local bus from Kathmandu, which takes you to Budhanilkantha. Here you will visit the Hindu Vishnu temple containing the 5 metre long image of Vishnu created from one monlithic piece of black stone in the 7th century. Then you walk up to the Park gate and buy the permit. From the gate, you will be hiking up the hill for 3.5km, with a steady climb of 650meters, following a small road. During the hike you will enjoy the many views over Kathmandu Valley, so you can take breaks for photographs. After a while, you will reach a pathway on the left, going up to the local nunnery called Nagi Gumba, which is a Sherpa Buddhist monastery housing 100 nuns. You will enjoy a delicious but simple lunch prepared by the nuns and spend some time visiting the monastery. Then, you will continue your walk through the forest passing traditional Tamang village before you reach Sundarijal where the hike ends. From Sundarijal, you will take public transportation and head back to Kathmandu.
|Day 1-:||7:30 am - Pick up from hotel and transfer to Budhanilkantha by local bus. Visit the 7th century Vishnu Temple and walk up to Shivapuri National Park gate.|
|Day 1-:||9:30 am - Start hike to Nagi Gompa nunnery. You will walk 3.5 km through the pristine forest of the Park before you reach the nunnery.|
|Day 1-:||12:30 pm - Enjoy simple but delicious lunch prepared by the nuns and visit the monastery.|
|Day 1-:||1:30 pm - Continue walking to Sundarijal where you will exit the Park and drive back to Kathmandu.|
